Draco Guns: The AK 47 You Need

The Legendary Draco Pistol

There’s no debate: the utility of the AK-47 is unmatched by anything else. This is a powerful firearm that has no equal. The only thing that comes close is the Draco pistol. Rather than go over the list of pros and cons for a pistol like this, we figured we’d just discuss what makes Draco so great. You can decide for yourself if it’s something you want to add to your collection. If your answer is to bring one of these bad boys home, then let GrabAGun help. We are the premier online gun store for all of your needs. Easily find bulk 9mm ammo, a Mossberg 590, Glock handguns for sale, and more on our site right now. So, what’s so special about a Draco gun from GrabAGun? Let’s take a look.

Some Backstory…

Without a doubt, the AK-47 is probably one of the most iconic and most manufactured weapons in history. The unique curved magazine and grip are easily recognized all over the world. The name itself, AK-47, originated from the Russian “Automat Kalashnikova” and is meant to honor the main designer of the firearm, Mikhail Kalashnikov as well as the automatic firing abilities. 47 denotes the year, 1947, when the trials for the rifle began–the same time when it was approved for use by the armed forces of the Soviet Union.

The AK-47 is indeed the most successful as well as the most popular assault rifle in history. There, truly, is no comparison in terms of the number of guns manufactured, worldwide deployment of the weapon, or service duration. Now it’s important to note, the AK-47 is not a completely original design. It’s actually a combination of design concepts from several pre-existing weapons. The gas-driven mechanism, the trigger system, rotating bolt, and safety catch were all borrowed from other weapons. Separately, these were fine features but merged together? You get the AK-47 in all its glory.

The result was the mass production of an extremely lightweight firearm that had moderate recoil, durability, a rugged design, and never before seen low production costs. The accuracy of the rifle was secondary to the power and ability to deliver firepower in an effective manner. All this and more make the AK-47 unlike any other rifle produced before.

Draco Gun Features

Less than a century later, the AK-47 is still one of the most iconic firearms out there. While you obviously can no longer purchase a fully automatic firearm in the states, you can get your hands on some incredible variations, like the Draco pistol. Century Arms currently imports it into the States and even began producing the gun themselves in 2017. This isn’t a range or hunting gun–it’s a close-quarters firearm. Today, you can find four very different, yet very effective firearms, all of which are available at GrabAGun.

The original Draco pistol

The Draco Pistol

The original DRACO Pistol is built in Romania. This full-sized pistol is chambered in 7.62x39mm and is designed for sporting use. The design inspiration comes from the original, famous AK-47, of course. Features include double locking lugs, an unlocking raceway, and a trigger mechanism that is clearly derived from the American M1 Garand Rifle. This compact package is also equipped with an Enhanced Trigger Group, a threaded barrel to attach your desired muzzle device (which you’ll want and need), and standard-style AK sights. It also features a stamped steel receiver, polymer pistol grip, and a wooden forearm. Maneuverability is increased with the 12.25-inch hard chrome-lined, hammer-forged barrel with a 1:10” twist. It comes with one 30-round magazine but does accept all AK magazines. Versatility is a must so this is a feature that’s across the board. This is a no-nonsense, built to perform little devil. The compact size allows you to store it in a backpack, truck safe, or anywhere you simply need raw power.

Mini Draco

The Draco Mini

Just like the full-sized version, the Mini Draco pistol is based on the AK-47 rifle. This version, though, is ideal for very specific purposes like residential or close-combat, personal defense. As you can imagine, this is smaller than the full-sized pistol, though even with a 7.5-inch barrel, it still packs a mighty punch in such a small frame. It features integral front sights on the barrel as well as a gas tube. There’s a muzzle-nut, wood fore stock, plastic pistol grip, and one magazine chambered in 7.62x39mm. The barrel is threaded allowing for preferred muzzle device attachments as needed. If the Mini Draco pistol sounds good to you, GrabAGun has you covered!

Micro Draco

The Draco Micro

The smallest of the bunch, but don’t be fooled by its size; the Micro Draco is just as powerful as its predecessors–including the AK 47. Featuring a 6.25-inch barrel, the Micro is a tiny but mighty pistol. There really is not much to it. It comes equipped with a polymer pistol grip, a lever safety, and a stamped steel receiver. The handguard is made from premium wood which can be laminated or standard wood. Like all other Draco firearms, this accepts AK magazines with no issue whatsoever. What else is there to say? The Micro Draco is powerful, reliable, and durable–all the things you want and need out of a personal defense gun for sale.

Draco VSKA

The Draco VSKA

The latest heavy-duty AK pistol from Century Arms is the VSKA Draco. Featuring an all-new bolt carrier, front trunnion, and feed ramp machined from S7 tool steel, that is specially heat-treated for maximum durability, this is one you won’t want to miss out on. S7 is often referred to as a “Shock-Resisting Tool Steel” and is commonly used for tools like chisels and jackhammer tips. In short, it’s the perfect material for a Draco pistol. Additional features include a carburized 4140 steel bolt, a chrome-moly 4150 10.5-inch barrel, and the RAK-1 Enhanced Trigger Group for an impressive trigger pull. And we can’t forget the American Maple Wood handguard, giving it that classic Draco look.

Draco NAK-9

The Draco NAK-9

Where the Draco takes a turn is with the Draco NAK-9. Not only in looks, but in caliber as well. The NAK-9 is built in Romania and chambered for 9mm Luger. Unlike its counterparts, this features a Picatinny rail on the hinged dust cover, offering the chance to add any optics your of choice. Since it’s chambered in 9mm, it accepts Glock 17 and 19 style magazines, on top of the 33-round magazine it comes with, so there’s still plenty of room for versatility. It also comes with standard AK Sights, 1/2×28 threaded barrel, wood forend, and a rear sling mount. True to its legacy, the NAK-9 is built to outperform anything it comes up against.
