Which is Better? AR-10 Vs. AR-15

“If you think the AR-15 is too much, get the AR-10. That is five fewer ARs”

As two of the most popular and successful guns on the market, the AR-10 and AR-15 have always been pitted against each other. There has been a long lasting debate on whether the AR-10 or AR-15 is “better”, with some saying the power and distance of the AR-10 outmatches the versatility and maneuverability of the AR-15 or vice versa. Let’s break down these ARs and see what the difference is between the two.

Here at GrabAGun, we are looking to match the right gun with our customers needs, including an assortment of the best AR 10s, AR 15s, bulk ammo, AR-10 magazines, and AR-15 magazines available! Get your favorite guns for sale online at GrabAGun!

History of The AR

Many people are under the impression that AR stands for “Assault Rifle”, but in reality it stands for “Armalite Rifle”, for the company at which it was founded. Armalite was established in 1954 when they built the AR-1, a weapon developed for paratroopers. After many variations of this rifle, including the popular AR-7 survival rifle, Armalite eventually built the infamous AR-10.

The AR-10 was created to compete with the AK-47s and M14s used during the Vietnam War. Not only was the AR-10 a smaller and lighter gun to carry, but it was more accurate than other rifles that used gas piston technology. The AR-10 used the direct impingement system which piped gas directly into the receiver, which then cycled into the bolt carrier. Chambered for the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, this rifle was a full pound lighter than other military rifles. The long-range capability actually makes the AR-10 a favorite for long-range shooters. Looking for AR 10 or AR 15 rifle deals? Go to GrabAGun.com and shop now!

The AR-10 had plenty of influence in new models of the AR. With the newly developed and lighter 5.56 NATO rounds, there was a request to use this new chambering in a new AR, and thus the AR-15 was born. The AR-15 was way lighter than the AR-10 and used lighter 5.56 NATO ammo. In 1959, Colt bought the rights to the AR-10 and AR-15 to start production for civilian use. The AR-15 has now become one of the most famous rifles in the US with almost 20 million AR-15 style rifles in circulation. Interested in an AR 10 or AR 15 rifle? Get an AR and bulk 5.56 ammo for sale online at GrabAGun!

The AR-10 and AR-15

While most people have a preference for either the AR-10 or the AR-15, both have similar internal functions and external styles. For example, they both have a rotating bolt design, use the same trigger group, are customizable, and many ARs have interchangeable parts. However, the significant difference between the two is the caliber, which leads to differences in things like rifling, weight, and ballistic performance. Today, these rifles are available in a variety of chamberings outside of their initial calibers which can lead to minimal differences even between different AR-10s or AR-15s

Why Should You Buy The AR-10?

Looking at the differences between a .223 Rem/5.56 NATO AR-15 and the .308 Win AR-10, the AR-10 excels at long distance shooting. With heavier ammunition, the AR-10 has a longer effective range. So, this probably isn’t a great home defense weapon unless BigFoot is trying to steal your fridge. While the heavier ammo leads to longer range accuracy, this makes the rifle heavier and the capacity lower. When you shop for an AR-10, you are mostly going to find .308 Win magazines with 20-rounds or lower. AR-10s can also have more proprietary parts depending on the manufacturer, so more research may be required if you are building a rifle instead of buying a complete AR. If you are a hunter, a long range target shooter, and someone who doesn’t mind a heftier weapon, the AR-10 may be the better option for you! Get an AR 10 for sale from GrabAGun along with your bulk .308 Win ammo and spare magazines today!

Why Should You Buy The AR-15?

The AR-15 overall is more popular than the AR-10 and is one of the most popular firearm platforms in the US. The AR-15 is inexpensive as it is easy to shoot. The ammo is cheaper and it is a little easier to find spare parts and mags. There is great interchangeability between different manufacturer’s parts if you are building an AR-15 as well. With a lighter 5.56 NATO round, the AR-15 is usually lighter and you will be able to find higher capacity 30-round magazines. Even though it is considered a shorter range weapon than the AR-10, the AR-15 is still highly effective between 300 and 500 yards. The AR-15 is well equipped for predators and varmints, but isn’t the best for hunting deer or larger animals. It is also less awkward in close quarters, making it a great home defense weapon, and offers more accurate and faster shots. If you are a target shooter, are looking for a home defense weapon, or just need something lighter, the AR-15 could be the better option! Get your AR 15 for sale at GrabAGun today. We have everything you need for an AR 15 at the prices you’ll love!

Which is Better?

At the end of the day, both of these guns are great when performing the tasks that they are made for. For example, the AR-15 is amazing when you are walking long distances or maneuvering on rough terrain. However, the AR-10 is amazing when hunting bigger game or needing to shoot accurately at long distance. Do you enjoy hunting big game or are you looking for a more accurate weapon at 750 yards? The AR-10 is for you. Are you looking for a gun that is easier to shoot, cheaper, and has better maneuverability at ranges under 500 yards? Then definitely get the AR-15. You can go back and forth all day on the pros and cons of these rifles because they truly are two sides of the same coin. So, when it really comes down to it, it is completely up to you and what you are needing in a new rifle. If you still can’t decide which one to get, maybe ask yourself, “why not both?”

A Little Backstory…

Daniel Defense began back in 1999 when founder Marty Daniel visited the shooting range for the first time. Immediately, he fell in love. He found that shooting was the perfect stress reliever and his engineering mind quickly went into overdrive. Daniel began wondering how to grow, innovate, and enhance firearms everywhere. Thus, the company we know today, Daniel Defense, was born.

In the years that immediately followed inception, DD came up with some truly groundbreaking products, including the “Big Hole Upper”, Sling Loop, and reliable rail systems, to name a few. What sealed DD’s fate was acquiring a contract by the Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in 2003. DD beat out larger manufacturing companies, solidifying their place in the industry.

Not resting on their laurels, Daniel Defense went on to manufacture the DDM4 in 2009. They have been recognized as one of the fastest-growing private companies in the USA, with a 1000% growth rate over a ten-year period. Don’t let their young age fool you–Daniel Defense is the name best associated with modern AR15 guns for sale.

Seven Things You Need to Know before Buying an AR

One of the most common rifles on the market needs no introduction. The AR, short for ArmaLite, has been a staple of rifles around the world for decades. Though initially considered to be a flop, a lot has changed since its inception. It is now popular internationally, and for good reason.

Because of this popularity, the AR10 and AR15 have numerous myths and facts that surround them. Sometimes, it is hard to differentiate between what is true and what is not. So to help keep you focused on what is important (or interesting) and also true about an AR, here are seven things you need to know before buying one.

1. ARs are completely customizable.

One of the most exciting aspects of owning an AR is the ability to outfit your weapon to your precise specifications. The barrel, stock, grip, receiver, and handguard can all be replaced to make your rifle unique. To add another layer of customization, the receiver is often split into an upper and lower section to allow for even more ways to adjust your AR to your personal taste.

2. They make excellent hunting rifles.

Think about some aspects of a weapon you would like to have when hunting. Light so it does not slow you down. Rugged and durable so it can endure harsh conditions. Most importantly, accuracy, so you will go home with the prize more often than not. ARs are ideal for hunting small game like coyotes and other feral animals.

3. Law enforcement utilizes their defensive capabilities.

Police use some of the most advanced weaponry available to help keep our communities safe. The AR continually makes the list of arms that officers carry. Weapons that are used for that level of defense and security should be optimal for home defense weaponry as well.

4. They come in a range of calibers.

The range of calibers for an AR are numerous. Because of the different sizes of barrels, the functions of the weapon are even more diverse. Sport shooting, home defense, and a wide variety of hunting can all be performed with an AR and its generous range of calibers. This also means that different types of bullets will be used, depending on the caliber of your weapon.

5. The AR is a semi-automatic version of the M16.

The M16 has been one of the most common weapons used by U.S. armed forces since its inception. The M16 is a fully automatic weapon that keeps soldiers of the United States military safe. The AR is modelled off of the M16 as a rifle to help private citizens feel safe and protected.

6. Sport/target shooting is a common pastime with an AR.

Sport shooting often requires your weapon to be accurate and lightweight; two characteristics that the AR offers. For rifle competitions, the AR is more often than not the weapon of choice and typically the rifle that wins the event. Most marksmen would agree that it is a vital weapon for anyone wanting to get involved with sport shooting.

7. There are multiple versions of the AR

The two most common are the AR10 and the AR15. Each have variations in their capabilities, and both are useful and versatile rifles. Analyzing your needs will help determine which type of AR will best work for you. Consider how you want to use your next rifle then gauge the pros and cons of the ARs that fit those needs.

With the extreme versatility of the AR, it is an ideal rifle to purchase for all types of gun owners. It still sits atop the list of modern sporting rifles due to its extreme flexibility as a weapon. This list gives you an introduction to why the AR-10 or AR-15 are so popular. It also gives you an understanding of how the AR can be utilized in your arsenal. Continue to research your state’s laws and the different types of ARs available, and you will be able to find the rifle that works best for you. Can’t decide between the AR 10 and the AR 15? Make sure to check out our blog post to decide which one is best for you!

The Truth About the AR-15 For Sale

ar15-for-sale

The AR-15 for Sale

The AR-15, or “America’s gun”, is the most popular gun in the U. S.. The AR-15 is a semi-automatic rifle meaning each time you pull the trigger one shot is fired. AR-15 is not an acronym for the assault rifle, it is an acronym for ArmaLite Rifle Model 15 referring to its original manufacturer, ArmaLite. The AR 15 for sale was not available until 1963.

In 1959, ArmaLite sold its AR 15 design to Colt, who modified it and sold it as the M-16 rifle. In 1963 when Colt developed the civilian semi-automatic version of the M-16 rifle to the public it was called the AR 15. Technically, only the Colt product is an AR-15 though variants of the firearm are produced by various manufacturers.

AR-15 Specs

The AR-15 style of rifles’ extreme popularity is mainly due to its versatility. Before the AR15, shooters would have a separate gun for every purpose. The AR-15 for sale changed this necessity for an individual gun for each purpose. It is easily customized with parts and accessories allowing the user to customize the AR15 to the degree of choice, allowing one gun to be used for different uses.

While versatility is the top reason for its popularity, the AR15 is also reliable, accurate, light-weight, and easy to shoot. All are reasons why the AR 15 for sale is popular not only with civilians, but law enforcement and security personnel.

Gas Piston Systems

The AR is available with a gas piston system, or the direct impingement system (DI/DGI). There are pros and cons to both systems, and selection is a matter of individual preference. Gas piston systems operate cleaner and cooler, providing a longer service life and less breakage from heat, wear and tear. This is in part related to the systems need for less lubrication, keeping in mind lubrication attracts more grit and grime which contributes to wear.

Gas piston systems are the more reliable of the two systems, especially when chambered with 5.56 NATO in short barrel receivers. In general, the gas piston system will run a wider variety of ammunition with fewer problems than the direct impingement system. Proprietary gas piston systems aside, other components of the AR-15 for sale in general among major manufacturers are MIL-SPEC, and will interchange with the direct impingement system variant weapons.

The largest con to using a proprietary gas piston system is the fact it is may not be user friendly. That means when it needs repair or an upgrade, you will have to send it back to the manufacturer. The other cons to a gas piston system is it will increase the gun’s weight and the current limited availability of the AR-15 for sale with gas piston systems. The gas piston not only increases the gun’s weight, but the barrel is thicker to compensate for the increased torque of the gas piston system.

Direct Impingement System

The greatest advantage of the direct impingement (DGI) gas operated system is its user friendly status. If you have a working knowledge of guns, this system provides a wider availability of parts for do-it-yourself gun owners. The DGI system also has the advantage of being lighter, as it lacks the piston and the need for a heavier barrel.

The main disadvantage of the DGI system is the limit of ammunition. Another disadvantage is, due to its cycling action, it contributes to a dirty gun. It simply requires more cleaning and maintenance than a gas piston system.

Knowing your weapon from the inside out provides you with a better understanding of how it works. The sheer amount of compatible and aftermarket parts make the AR 15 one of the most easily customized guns available. It is truly a firearm you can personalize and make your own to the exact degree that you desire.

Optics and Scopes for the AR-15

One of the most common accessories AR-15 owners will want is optics such as rifle scopes or sights. With so many choices available, making a choice can be intimidating and there simply isn’t a “one scope fits all needs” option out there. A good guide to choosing optics is by making a selection according to how you will use it. Let’s look at a few of the most popular AR-15 optics for sale.

Leupold Mark 4 HAMR

Laser Sights

AR-15 laser sight at GrabAGun

If you have ever had to climb a tree because a wild boar is after you or get on top of a car while the bumper is being tore off by the dynamite porky, you will learn to appreciate lasers in low-lighting conditions as an assist in the take down of boar before they get out of the darkening woods. You can’t hunt after dark in many states, not even the vermin. Yet hogs and coyote often come no sooner than late afternoon and disappear just after the sun rises in many locations, providing a very narrow window of opportunity with wooded areas already darkening.

With so many great optics available, applying your intended use and considering your budget is the best guide for choosing optics. Tactical lights are also a great product useful for vermin control, and you will find the laser a great assist in low light conditions. Many people may prefer just having a red dot sight for easy-to-use fast acquisition as well.

Which is Better? The AK47 Vs. The AR15

ak47 vs ar15

AK-47 and AR-15’s | Head to Head

There are fans on both sides of the AK-47 vs. AR-15 debate. Depending upon the intended use, each gun has its advantages. When making the decision as to purchase the AR 15 for sale vs. the AK47 for sale on today’s market there are several factors to be considered. One way of looking at it is that you are comparing the larger 7.62 × 39 caliber to the smaller 5.56 × 45 and .223 caliber.

Caliber is Important

Unlike the 5.56 caliber, the 7.62 caliber is able to penetrate a concrete block, or as much 0.5 inch steel plate, depending upon the ammo used. The 7.62 is going to do more damage.

All 10 bullets of both the AK and the AR 15 penetrated both sides of a truck, but only the 7.62 ammo went completely through two plywood walls of a garage. As for the 5.56 ammo, 7 of 10 shots fired entered the first wall and fragmented after passing through both sides of the trucks metal body. The results of this demonstration was in the fragmentation of the AR15 in the first wall with only three entries of ten into the second, whereas all 10 shots of the AK47 went clean through everything.

Just this past fall I saw on the news that a hunter had killed two deer with one 7.62 shot as the bullet passed through the first and entered a second killing both. Luckily he wasn’t at the end of his seasons bag limit as it was caught on film. Never under estimate the power of these guns, or of any gun for that matter. It is a gun owner’s responsibility to know the proper use and handling of a gun, as well as knowing a guns range.

Applications of the AR-15 Vs. AK-47

For the gun with the tightest grouping, the longest range, one you can trick out to the max, or use in competitive shooting; choose the AR. But if you want a rifle for self-defense and the greatest reliability, choose the AK 47. Practice makes perfect and the more familiar you are with any gun, the greater your accuracy will be. Using a good grade of ammo for sale will also help.

The AK vs. AR debate includes suitability for home defense. I personally would never shoot either inside of my home. They are simply too powerful with the ability to pass through an assailant or the walls. Either could also pass through an exterior wall and into a neighbor’s house. I prefer the AR-15 as a coyote gun and the AK is one of my if-crap-hits-the-fan guns.

Hunter’s use both guns with success and there is no shortage of either in the woods come deer season. Ultimately, my advice is to shoot both weapons before making a decision. Both are great guns and, if you can afford it, purchase one of each. I have seen accurate hunters take a deer in one shot with a .22 rifle. It’s just proof to the old saying that “a good gun can’t make a good hunter out of a bad one.”

Weight of The AK47 vs. AR15

Another factor to consider in the AK-47 vs. AR 15 decision is weight. The heavier AK 47 for sale is manufactured out of steel, whereas most AR’s are manufactured from mostly aluminum. Due to their larger size, the AK-47 ammo will add more carry weight than the AR-15 ammo for sale, another reason that many choose the AR over the AK.

AR-15’s are as diverse as they are impressive. Their universal acclaim and widespread popularity have turned a single, semi-automatic rifle into an entire line of weapons, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Knowing there’s an AR-15 for sale is only the tip of the iceberg. Before making a purchase, do a little research to find out more about the gun you’re about to purchase. You’ll be glad you did. Here are a couple of things to consider before buying your first AR-15 rifle.

Picking a Barrel Length

Deciding on a barrel length is an important first step before purchasing a rifle. If you walk into your local gun shop, chances are they’ll have at least one AR-15 for sale and it’ll probably have a barrel length of 14 1/2 or 16 inches. This length, although popular for its maneuverability and light weight, carries some baggage along with it. First of all, it’s important to note that the AR-15 was originally designed with a 20-inch barrel in mind. This length not only provides a more pleasant overall experience but also helps to reduce internal pressures by lengthening the distance between the gas port and the chamber.

If maneuverability is of tantamount importance to you, then it’s probably best to choose the AR-15 for sale with the 16-inch barrel. Crossing the 16-inch threshold to a length like 14 1/2 inches doesn’t just open you up to increased multi-level government regulations and a two hundred dollar tax, but all rifles with a barrel length under 16-inches come with a permanently attached muzzle device. This may not seem like much in the short-term, but it makes customizing your rifle more of a hassle in the long-term.

Accessories For The AR-15

Another thing to consider before making your purchase is available accessories. Chances are, when you imagined using your new rifle, it had a little more than just a stock and a barrel. Fortunately, most stores that have AR-15’s for sale will also carry useful accessories like magazines, gas systems, and stocks. Factoring these extra costs into your decision will leave you with fewer surprises when it comes time to pay the bill.

Assembling The AR-15

A final consideration is your form of purchase, and I don’t mean cash, credit, or debit. There are three mainline ways of purchasing your new AR-15: fully-assembled, an upper and lower, or part-by-part. In the past, it was possible to significantly lower your cost by buying each piece and assembling your weapon by hand. However, a recent rise in competition amongst major manufacturers has driven down prices, making that approach slightly obsolete.
