It’s Christmas Eve. On this chilly night somewhere in an LA skyscraper, a company Christmas Eve party has gone wrong. Against all the odds, one New York Police officer who is in town to visit his wife Holly and their two children for the holiday, John McClane, has to take on a team of baddies in an attempt to save the day. His tools? His skills as a police officer, his wits, and his trusty Beretta 92.

The Beretta 92 in Die Hard

Throughout the original Die Hard movie, as well as Die Hard 2 and Die Hard 3 (Die Hard with a Vengeance), we see John McClane wielding the Beretta 92 as he works tirelessly to save the day movie after movie. Chambered in 9mm with a heavy steel build, the Beretta is a durable full-sized pistol that stands up to the beating that McClane puts it through, reliably firing shot after shot and taking down the terrorists in the movie as he works to ruin their plot and save his wife. He continues to make use of it as he fights off bad guys up until the 4th movie. In the original movie, McClane uses the Beretta 92F but uses the Beretta 92FS in later movies.

History of the Beretta 92

The Beretta 92 is a series of semi-automatic pistols designed and manufactured by Beretta of Italy. The pistol evolved from earlier Beretta designs, most notably the M1923 and M1951. The Beretta 92 was designed in 1975, and production began in 1976. Many variants in several different calibers continue to be used in the present.

The Beretta 92FS was adopted by the United States military in 1985 as the “M9” to replace the .45 ACP M1911A1 pistol. It features several advanced design features, including a magazine with direct feed and a “double-stacked” design, a feature originally introduced in 1935 on the Browning Hi-Power. The Beretta 92FS also has an open slide design, hard-chromed barrel bore, and falling locking block design that provides good accuracy and operability with suppressors. Today, the Beretta 92 is available in many configurations and models, and it remains a popular choice among law enforcement and military organizations worldwide.
