The tradition of turkey hunting began only in the fall season initially. During the first half of the 20th century, very few states even offered spring hunting seasons due to the limited turkey population. Though In time a rise in turkey populations made the spring hunt more popular and widely available, fall turkey hunting remains a cherished tradition.
As many as 44 states offer fall turkey hunting, giving shooters a second chance to bag that prized bird as well as an opportunity to experience the time-honored fall hunt. Whether you’re a veteran of turkey hunting or a newcomer, there are several factors to consider. So before you head out, check out our list of fall turkey hunting essentials to be fully prepared.
Fall turkey hunting is its own unique sport. Many tactics and gear that you’d normally use in the spring won’t necessarily work in the fall. For example, scouting is key to finding turkeys in this season. Unlike spring turkey hunting, fall hunters must rely less on sounds, scratching, or flapping wings.
Fall Turkey Habits:
Hens and Jakes tend to flock together in search of food like hickory nuts, beetles and bugs, corn and grains, grass, and acorns
Toms tend to be loners, keeping to themselves while searching for food
Fall flocks wander over a wide area and sometimes will not return to the same spot for many days. The typical range for a fall flock is between 250 and 400 acres
Spring Turkey Habits:
Toms turn into lovers instead of loners. They are notably vocal and will strut more.
Jakes and Toms will flock together and a pecking order within the group will be established.
Every Tom and Jake are in competition to capture the attention of a hen, so decoys are a great tool for hunters.
Turkeys typically visit the same roosting, strutting, and feeding areas each day.
Choose Your Weapon
There are countless methods hunters use to take down their game. Each has benefits and drawbacks, and some are more apt for beginners than others. When choosing your weapon, consider your hunting style, terrain, experience level, and price range.
Using a bow for fall turkey hunting is, typically, not for beginners because it can be challenging. However, bow hunting is incredibly exhilarating and rewarding. Fall and winter bow hunting seasons for wild turkeys are often long and generous in many states, which means you’ll get ample opportunity to land your prized bird.
Turkey Hunting Tips for Fall Bow Hunting:
Make sure you are comfortable shooting your bow from a seated position; most turkey hunts happen on the ground.
If you are positioned in a blind, ensure that you have enough room to draw back your bow. If you can’t comfortably sit and draw back your bow, consider reducing your draw weight.
Compound bows are a great, safe option for beginners. Compound bows are faster and more forgiving while you’re figuring out form.
Consider all your broadhead options. Some are designed for aiming at a turkey’s neck and head, while others are designed for the turkey’s vitals in the body. In order to ethically take down your turkey, do your research and pick the broadhead that best fits your needs.
Turkey Hunting Shotguns
The shotgun is by far the most popular choice for turkey hunting. However, not just any shotgun will do. In fact, many manufacturers now specifically design turkey shotguns for sale, which include unique features that are specifically compatible with turkey hunting such as:
A short barrel
A tight choke
The ability to shoot heavy loads
Sling swivels
A matte or camo finish
Additional considerations for your hunting shotgun should include weight. If you are hiking or tracking, you will want a platform that is lightweight. A 12 gauge shotgun such as the Remington 870 12 gauge, is traditionally the preferable option. GrabAGun offers an extensive line of turkey hunting shotguns which includes Winchester, Mossberg, and Remington shotguns.

There are a few things to consider when choosing ammo for fall turkey hunting. For example, a heavy load may not be a necessity in the fall season as it would be in the spring season, since fall turkey’s tend to be smaller and more fragile. Other things to look for include the length, price range, and shot size. The most popular turkey hunting loads are lead and tungsten-based. Find the best type of ammo for sale at GrabAGun that fits your needs!
Turkey hunting with lead ammunition is a hugely popular choice. This shotgun ammo has a proven track record of consistency and power. It is the traditional choice for many turkey hunting loads, and thanks to modern innovation, many lead loads are more effective than ever.
An increasingly popular shotgun ammo choice is Tungsten. Not only is it much denser and heavier than lead, but it also penetrates deeper and maintains a sturdy shape. Thanks to tungsten’s heavier pellets, these loads carry more energy further downrange. The result is the take down of turkeys at greater distances and with greater stopping power.

The Best Waterfowl Hunting Shotguns
A waterfowl shotgun is, without question, the most important part of your waterfowl hunting gear. Without a good shotgun, you can’t know whether you’ll be able to take down the birds in your sights. Shoot with confidence by making sure your waterfowl shotgun is They’re built to take on the Durability, longevity, and heavy-duty performance are key characteristics of these shotguns. They should be built to deliver heavy loads in the worst conditions while lasting a lifetime.
Action: Semi-Automatic vs Pump
Semi-automatic and pump-action shotguns are the most preferred choice of waterfowl hunters worldwide. The key to success when hunting in a cramped blind is quick reloading and maximum capacity. Unlike the double-barrel shotgun, semi-automatic and pump-action shotguns have that coveted third shot, which could help you get your limit faster if you shoot well or waste ammo faster if you don’t.
Pump-Action Shotguns
Pump action shotguns are renowned for their reliability. Whether you’re knee-deep in mud or fumbling through marshes, the pump action shotgun will deliver. They’re durable, inexpensive, and will survive any weather condition. Pump action shotguns are also great for beginners, thanks to their smooth operation and relatively low cost.
Our pick for the pump-action category is the Remington 870 Fieldmaster shotgun. This All-American pump action brings hunters the best in any discipline. Beneath the no-nonsense, ready-for-work exterior of the Model 870 Fieldmaster lies the same quality, precision, and dependability that you’ll find in the legendary Remington 870 Wingmaster. Like all Remington 870 shotguns, this workhorse features a receiver milled from a solid billet of steel for maximum strength and reliability. It’ll be there when you need it!
Semi-automatic shotguns have risen as the waterfowl hunter’s favorite in recent years for many reasons. Their autoloading capabilities mean faster follow-up shots and less recoil. Unlike the semi-automatics of old, modern autoloader semi-automatic shotguns deliver steady reliability and consistency, making them the perfect candidate for your waterfowling needs.
A great option for a semi-automatic waterfowl shotgun is the Winchester Super X4. This shotgun comes in 12 or 20 gauge, multiple barrel lengths, and can hold 4 rounds. This semi-auto shotgun has a worldwide reputation for speed, reliability and handling. The Super X 3 was a tough act to follow, and making the Super X 4 evolution of this popular shotgun series even better than its predecessor was a real challenge. The new Super X4 is also lighter, faster cycling, smoother swinging, and more ergonomic than ever before!
If you prefer Beretta shotguns, the Beretta A400 Xtreme Plusshotgun is perfect for duck hunting. This 12 gauge shotgun features a soft comb, which reduces the felt recoil imparted to the shooter’s cheek even further. The A400 Xtreme Plus features Beretta’s exclusive Steelium Plus barrels, a first for hunting shotguns. Further enhancing the A400 Xtreme Plus is the addition of an extended charging handle and bolt release, as well as an enlarged loading port to allow for easier loading in adverse conditions.
Your shotgun shells should be powerful, consistent, and as reliable as your shot. While there are countless options out there, you must make sure your load is right for the type of waterfowl you’re hunting, along with when in the season you plan to hunt. We’re going to quickly look at some of the factors that go into choosing a shot shell:
Gauge
The next important consideration for your waterfowl shotgun is the gauge, which measures the inner diameter of the barrel. The most popular waterfowl choices are 12 gauge, 20 gauge, and 10 gauge. The best shotgun gauge for you is highly dependent on two factors: when you choose to hunt and what you’re hunting.
10 Gauge
In the early 90s, the federal government started requiring non-toxic ammunition to hunt waterfowl. Since the first 12 gauge non-toxic loads weren’t very effective or powerful, many hunters turned to the 10 gauge. Many hunters believed they were the best non-toxic loads available which started a huge comeback for the 10 gauge shotgun. It still remains a popular choice today, especially when hunting large geese late in the season or when taking longer shots on large birds. 10 gauge shotguns are usually heavier than other guns, but this also means less recoil. Find 10 gauge ammo for sale at GrabAGun!
12 Gauge
In recent years, the 12 gauge shotgun, chambered for 3-inch shells, has become the most popular choice for waterfowl hunters. This is due to its versatility. 12 gauge is great for a broad spectrum of duck hunting, covering anything from teal to geese. Because of the popularity of 12 gauge, it is easy to find ammunition just about anywhere. Find 12 GA shotguns for sale and shotgun shells at GrabAGun!
20 Gauge
The 20 gauge shotgun has risen in popularity over time, especially with waterfowl hunters, thanks to modern non-toxic loads like copper-plated bismuth. It is best used for close-range teal and wood duck hunting, delivering the most power in close quarters. Paired with the right choke, you’ll get tight patterns that pack an incredible punch. It’s also a great option for women, children, or new waterfowl hunters, thanks to its lighter weight and minimal recoil. Browse all GrabAGun’s waterfowl hunting shotguns and 20 Gauge shotgun shells for sale online.
Shot Size
Shot size refers to the pellets or projectiles inside a shotgun shell. As many hunters know, the right shot size will promote balance between pattern density and pellet energy.
Smaller-sized shots are identified by a larger number, and inversely, larger-sized shots carry a smaller number. Smaller shot sizes are great for ducks, while larger shots are better suited for larger birds like geese and swans.
Short-range Ducks
#4, #3, #2
Long-range Ducks
#2, #1, BB
Short-range Geese
BB, BBB
Long-range Geese
BBB, T Shot
The shot size should also be determined by whether you shoot early in the season versus late in the season. For example, #4, #5, and #6 shots are great for early-season teal and wood duck hunts. In the late season, when teal and woodies are gone, hunters would do well to move onto #3 and #2 shot.
Shell Types
There is a variety of non-toxic shot loads on the market with different specifications, price points, and capabilities. For a successful hunt, waterfowlers must find the right shell to fit their needs. Take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of each lead shot alternative below.
Steel
Advantages
Disadvantages
Known for efficiency and durability
Less weight and density compared to traditional lead
Most common non-toxic shot
Spreads less and produces a denser shot pattern
Affordable
Bismuth-Tin
This shell type is the closest non-toxic option to pure lead. It’s a great option for older shotguns that can’t handle steel and is renowned for producing clean kills.
Advantages
Disadvantages
Closest to pure lead
Requires a thicker wad to protect old shotgun barrels
Works well with older shotguns that can’t handle the hardness of steel
Higher price-tag
Shots will remain intact upon impact for a cleaner kill
Tungsten
Tungsten shells are typically constructed with a combination of tungsten and plastic polymer or iron. These pellets deliver greater muzzle velocity and incomparable stopping power.
Advantages
Disadvantages
Another close non-toxic lead alternative
Requires a thicker wad to protect old shotgun’s barrels
Delivers the most knock-down power
Higher price-tag
Heavier than steel
In recent years, shotgun ammo manufacturers have produced innovative and powerful non-toxic loads. Hunters used to dread these lead alternatives, but more and more they are stocking up on these incredible loads. Companies continuously pour the latest technology and research into non-toxic ammunition to meet hunting needs, and these loads consistently perform just as well as their lead alternatives. With ammo that delivers greater velocity, stopping power, and incredible accuracy, your days hunting waterfowl will be unforgettable. About Beretta
Over the past 500 years, the Beretta brand has become synonymous with uncompromising quality, design, and performance. By the early 1900’s, Beretta introduced modernized manufacturing methods, such as simplified construction, consequently establishing this company as one of the most modern firearms production facilities in the world. These efforts created successful ventures in the military, law enforcement, and private sectors. Today, Beretta benefits from centuries of experience, combined with investments in technology and organization, that have prepared Beretta for the demands of the 21st century. As one of the leading firearm manufacturers in the world, Beretta’s slogan has reigned true throughout the hundreds of years since Beretta’s conception: Quality without Compromise. Beretta gives anyone from military personnel to private citizens access to some of the most well made guns today. The Beretta 1301 Tactical is just one example of the various firearms, gun accessories, and gun cases that you can find at Beretta.
The 1301 Tactical
The enhanced Beretta 1301 Tactical is the newest iteration of Beretta’s premier law enforcement and home-defense semi-automatic shotgun series. Engineered to be ultra-reliable and easy to use, this tactical shotgun was released as an upgraded version of their TX4 Storm. While the TX4 Storm was a popular and reliable gun, it had a small bolt release and charging handle that made it hard to maneuver for many gun owners. That is why in 2013, Beretta upgraded the TX4 and rebranded it as the Beretta 1301. This 1301 features enlarged controls, a cold hammer-forged, back-bored barrel, and Beretta’s BLINK gas operating system with a cross tube gas piston that allows for 36% faster cycling. With a few smaller upgrades over the past few years, the Beretta 1301 Tactical is still seen as one of the most dependable semi-auto tactical shotguns available on the market. Pick up the best tactical shotguns, such as the Beretta 1301, available at GrabAGun!
Right out of the box, the 1301 has features that make it easy to use in all weather or lighting conditions. With an oversized charging handle, a large highly textured bolt release, and an oversized reversible safety button, your hands will always be able to positively and safely grip the gun and operate the controls, even while wearing thick gloves. This 1301 Tactical features a ghost-ring system with an interchangeable front sight, giving the user the opportunity to adapt it for any use in any condition. It also comes with an interchangeable choke system that allows for maximum flexibility based on your needs. An OptimaBore HP Improved Cylinder (flush configuration) is included as well as a factory 7+1 capacity one-piece magazine tube. This shotgun has 7-round capacity when using the 2.75” shells and can hold 6 rounds with 3” shells.
The stock is adjustable for length-of-pull with provided spacers to ensure that it will always come up naturally to your shoulder and point easily. For additional customization, the receiver offers an aircraft-grade, aluminum MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail that makes it easy to add optics without modifications to the shotgun. This enhanced tactical shotgun also features a cold hammer-forged, back-bored barrel that dissipates recoil away from the shooter’s hand and greatly reduces muzzle flip. The shotgun has been a staple of arsenals since its inception. Whether if it is used for home defense, hunting, or another function, the shotgun always finds a way into gun owner’s homes. Though it is capable of many feats on its own, a shotgun can be improved to elevate its functionality to new heights.
Whether you are in the market for shotguns for sale or are looking to upgrade an existing firearm, there are some upgrades to your firearm that you will want to look for. This doesn’t mean that your firearm is inferior or cannot be used without accessories. It’s just if you can optimize it, why wouldn’t you? All of us want to improve the efficiency of our firearms, and accessories can take them to the next level. They can improve carrying capacity, make them easier to carry, and improve accuracy. If you have ever wanted to take your skills and firearm to the next level, then you will want to check out these four essential shotgun accessories you should have:
Tactical shotguns require unique upgrades. Sidesaddles are an ideal way to keep additional ammo close and easily accessible. One of the biggest issues with nearly every shotgun is its magazine capacity. When you carry the magazines on the firearm with a side saddle, you alleviate some of that problem. With the Mesa Tactical Sureshell Carrier, you get a rugged and reliable tactical shotgun accessory. It also fits onto the Remington 870.
Another issue many shotgun owners have is sight: not only the ability to see, but also to have an accurate idea of what they are aiming at. Target identification allows for safer use of the shotgun and better accuracy (though this is not always what shotguns are thought of when used).
The Truglo Long Bead Front Fiber Optic Shotgun Sight is one of the industry-leading bead replacements. For this shotgun accessory, the sight is red, with a fiber of 0.078” in diameter and 0.5” in length. Made out of metal and painted solid black, it fits on a Ruger or Winchester.
Similar to the Sidesaddle, a stock carrier can give your shotgun the additional storage it needs in situations where you find yourself needing more ammo forsale. The Grovtec USA GTAC77 is a camouflaged version of a buttstock shell holder designed to carry five additional rounds. The buttstock carrier wraps securely around the shotgun’s stock rather than screwing into the firearm like the sidesaddle.
Many people have a preference between how the additional storage is secured to the firearm due to either the screws coming out of the sidesaddle, or the Velcro coming loose on the buttstock carrier. Owning both can give you two options that will sure to have one work for your needs.
One of the best accessories for a shotgun is a sling. There are one-point, two-point, and three-point slings; but arguably the ideal for shotguns is the two-point sling. For many purposes, the one-point sling is not practical. Climbing, moving through rugged terrain, or just having to move quickly can all be problematic. The three-point sling is also too complicated for many shotgun owners. Because of this, most owners tend to lean towards the two-point sling as the favorite. The Crickett 800 sling comes in black leather embossed with the Crickett name. Its two-point design makes it a favorite for many to add to their list of shotgun accessories.
Advantages for Accessorized Shotguns
When you combine all of these choices with your current firearm, you will notice plenty of advantages. Your ability to hold more rounds closer to your shotgun can help you in situations when your average shell carrying capacity just won’t do. The two-point sling will help carry your shotgun in several situations you might find yourself in that other slings couldn’t do. Everyone will agree that having the added sights on a shotgun might not seem necessary at first. However, once they try them they will never know how they fired a shotgun without laser sights.

A shotgun is part of many people’s equipment for home defense. In the case of many modern shotguns for sale, one of the main problems is the reduced ammunition capacity. Ted Hatfield, a former staff editor for the American Rifleman, has developed a solution: the UTS-15 shotgun.
UTS-15 Shotgun
The UTS-15 is a tactical pump-actionshotgun with dual tubular magazines and a capacity of 15 rounds. Its unique appearance, claims for reliability, and the extra capacity are making it a popular firearm among shotguns for sale.
With these dual tubular magazines, you can use them either together or separately. You set how the ammo will fire; feeding from both tubes automatically, alternating between both tubes, or setting the gun to feed from one tube only. This system enables you to have one type of shot in one tube and a different kind in the other, allowing you to choose the appropriate ammunition for the current application. You can select the magazine of your choice by moving a lever on the top of the gun.
UTS-15 Specs
The short overall length of the UTS-15 provides the maneuverability needed for close quarters handling. The pistol grip allows firing to be accomplished with one hand, leaving the other free for other activity such as opening a door. The shotgun weighs 6 pounds and 13 ounces and is 28.3 inches long. It is also chambered for 12 gauge 3-inch shotshells, meaning it can use 2 ½ inch and 2 ¾ inch shotshells as well. Get this UTS-15 or other 12 Gauge shotguns from GrabAGun!
The barrel is smooth bore and threaded for chokes with a Beretta thread that screw in. It features a flush-fit cylinder bore choke from the factory and an optional cylinder-bore, ported tactical breeching choke. The user has the option of installing any choke, including a full and rifled choke.
Optional Features
The gun is not designed to be a point weapon like other shotguns, nor is it designed to be shot like a conventional shotgun. Rather, it is designed to be used with sights or optics on the top rail. An optional adjustable rear and front sight is offered. The front sight is adjustable for elevation while the rear sight is adjustable for windage. The rail and offset are similar to an AR-15 and any optics designed for an AR-15 should work with this UTS-15 shotgun. With the barrel located below the magazine tubes, there is low impact at close range.
Other optional features offered with this unique shotgun for sale include an integral light and laser system with the laser being nonadjustable and mounted below the barrel. The buttpad also accommodates future options for a pull longer than the current 12 inches. It has a hinged cheekpiece for easy access to clear a jam. The user operates the gun by sliding the fore-end grip under the barrel. Vented covers indicate how many shells remain in each magazine tube.
The UTS-15 at GrabAGun
GrabAGun is your online source for shotguns for sale, including the UTS-15. We provide one of the largest selections of shotguns for sale, as well as the AR-15 for sale, the AK-47 for sale as well an extensive offering of pistols and rifles for sale.
The .410 shotgun is the smallest of the traditional shotguns for sale, but seldom receive the respect it deserves. Known best for the very low recoil, those who consider these shotguns generally think of them as guns suitable for beginning youths or “squirrel guns”. The .410shotgun also has the reputation of being difficult to hit a moving target.
Neither of these is true. Having used a .410 for over 30 years leads me to believe that the shooter and not the gun is behind the claims of a .410 being difficult to hit moving game. The question of its ability to take down game is directly related to the distance constraint of the .410. The .410 bore is typically patterned for 25 yards. However, some .410s will indeed provide greater distance with a solid accuracy.
Accuracy and Reliability
The shot pattern of a .410 provides great patterns in its range. Being the smallest of shotguns does provides a longer shot string, and therefore the pellets retain less energy in the longer shots when compared to a 20 gaugeshotgun for example. The .410shotgun provides what it is manufactured to perform and often exceeds expectations.
Through the years and the use of two .410s, two things have become apparent. First, the .410 when used appropriately is a reliable and effective firearm that is fun to shoot and has never failed to put meat on the table. Second, 3 ½ inch shells provide significantly greater recoil but the gain in performance is minimal. Due to the increased recoil, recovery for follow up is difficult. Sticking to 3 inch shells will keep you in the game.
The .410 Chambering
The .410 bore shell has resulted in some unique applications. For example, a .410 bore shell will fit into a .45 Colt chamber. Shotguns for sale today have a minimum legal length, yet pistols are not defined as shotguns even though shotgun shells can be chambered in them. This is because a pistol has a rifled barrel, whereas a shotgun has a smooth barrel. Numerous brands of pistols are now available in both derringers and revolvers with extended cylinders.
In addition, shot slugs can increase the firepower in the .410. Brenneke provides the best performance and less deformation of the slug with a 35 yard shot (Magnum 3 inch) and a 50 yard shot (Close Encounter 2 ½ inch) available.
Shop For a .410 at GrabAGun
Overall, any .410 shotgun for sale provides a lot of fun as well as being a very reliable firearm to use. Being light weight and having low recoil allows the youth or the elderly who are intolerant to severe recoil the ability to join shooters and hunters alike. It is also great for a long session of shooting practice without the need for recovery between shots when used with 3 inch shot and has never failed this writer in bringing in geese, pheasant, squirrel, rabbit, and a wild boar down with a slug.
